“The Best Games Club Ever!”

Written By Garrett Austen

“Except for that time we got to shave Oliver’s head…” said a certain little Lockheart last week when reminiscing about his favorite Games Club moments.

And honestly, that pretty much sums up how much fun we’ve been having!

A huge thank-you to Ms. Tina, Bodhi’s nanny and teacher, for putting together last week’s STEM challenges! Tina used NASA’s STEM Aeronautics Resource Kit and some supplies from Target to create a series of hands-on engineering challenges. The kids spent the entire hour designing, building, testing, and refining solutions to different problems. They were completely engaged!

Games Club has become a real team effort. I started out leading it, Oliver took over, and Monica and Tina have both been tagging in with new activities and ideas.

And a big shout-out to Teton Toys, who generously sponsored the club!

So far, our featured games and activities have included:

  • Pie Face

  • Buildzi

  • Outfoxed!

  • Sushi Go!

  • Qwirkle

  • Onitama

  • Chess

  • Magic: The Gathering

  • Connect Four

  • Shaving Oliver’s head before his Yosemite trip (apparently a fan favorite)

It’s been so much fun watching the kids learn new games, challenge each other, solve problems, and build friendships. Sometimes they’re practicing strategy and critical thinking. Sometimes they’re designing airplanes. And sometimes they’re giving their teacher a haircut.

Check out photos from Games Club and all the fun we've been having at RadAcad!
