RC Cars Club is a hands-on, project-based after-school program where students learn real-world STEM by building, tuning, and racing beginner-friendly radio-controlled cars. Guided by an experienced instructor, kids progress from simple mechanical concepts to practical troubleshooting, performance tuning, and race strategy. Each session blends short, focused instruction with plenty of track time so students can immediately apply what they learn, experiment with setups, and see their skills improve. Along the way, they practice teamwork, safe battery handling, and respectful competition. Whether your child is brand-new to RC or already loves tinkering, the club provides a supportive environment to explore engineering, build confidence, and have a blast on the track.
Elementary
Elementary RC Car Club introduces young makers to STEM with safe, guided projects. Students take apart and upgrade RC cars, design custom parts, and 3D print their own creations. It’s the perfect way to build foundational skills in engineering and design
Schedule: Thu, 4:30–5:30 PM
Dates: Sept. 18 – Dec. 18 (no class Thanksgiving week)
RC Cars Options
-

Monster Truck
Whether indoors or outdoors, the truck can easily conquer various terrains: like beach, swimming pool, land, stone road, beaches, and grasslands even in the water
-

RC Truck
This remote control car uses 2.4GHz remote control technology, which is easier to operate and has a more stable signal.
-

RC Tank Car
The remote control tank is designed to climb up to a 30° incline, making it perfect for outdoor play on uneven surfaces. 360° in-place rotation stunning arrival, Free-from-control for enhanced playability.
Middle School
The Middle School RC Car Club builds on our elementary program with a deeper dive into design, fabrication, and performance. Students will hand-build RC Snow Skimmers from scratch, applying 3D printing, iterative testing, and practical engineering skills. Learn more about the project here.
Dates: October 23 - January 22, 2026 (Skip November 27th for Thanksgiving, December 25th for winter break, and January 1st for winter break)

Meet the Instructor
Grant holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Aerospace from the University of Dayton and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University. Between degrees he served in the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone and completed research in Malawi for his master thesis, experiences that shape his practical and student centered teaching approach. He has over four years of teaching experience, including roles as a graduate teaching assistant and a math teacher at Jackson High School, and tutors advanced math, physics, and test prep.
For the RC Cars Club Grant brings his engineering training and makerspace skills to the track. He enjoys coding, woodshop, 3D printing, LEGO robotics, and applying real world problem solving to fun projects. Under his guidance students will build technical skills, learn fundamental engineering and physics concepts, and get hands on experience designing and racing remote control cars.
